Sustainable Materials Institute for Post-AI Era
KEYWORDKeyword
OBJECTIVE Objective
We aim to establish a robust technological foundation that will sustainably reinforce competitiveness in future strategic technology sectors
by developing next-generation core materials essential to AI–hardware–integrated ecosystem with sustainability embedded across the entire lifecycle.
INTRODUCTION Director's Message
Thank you for your interest in the Sustainable Post-AI Materials Research Institute.
We are rapidly entering a new technological paradigm—the Post-AI era—
in which artificial intelligence is increasingly integrated with the physical world.
This transition is driving innovation across semiconductors, sensors,
and energy systems, while simultaneously introducing critical challenges
related to energy consumption and environmental impact.
In this regard, our research center aims to lead fundamental transformation
of the Post-AI technological ecosystem by developing advanced materials
with sustainability inherently embedded.
In particular, we pursue a full lifecycle, integrated research approach—from material
design to processing, device fabrication, and system-level implementation— to secure
next-generation core materials that achieve both high energy efficiency and environmental compatibility.
Furthermore, by leveraging KAIST’s world-class research capabilities and
strategically integrating leading domestic and global expertise,
we seek to establish a multidisciplinary research environment that transcends
traditional boundaries, evolving into a global hub for cutting-edge research and talent development.
For InnoCORE Fellows, we provide a highly supportive ecosystem designed to cultivate
next-generation convergence leaders equipped with both outstanding research excellence
and practical competencies. This includes a collaborative multi-mentoring framework,
a fully immersive research environment, and structured career development programs.
Through these efforts, we aim to foster a multicultural research community
where globally diverse international talents synergize to enhance creativity and originality,
ultimately contributing to the realization of shared values for a sustainable and prosperous future for humanity.
We sincerely appreciate your interest and support as we take on this
important challenge toward a sustainable future.
Thank you.

IMPACT Impact
We aim to structurally reduce energy and environmental burdens
across the entire lifecycle of Post-AI technologies by leveraging low-power,
high-reliability, and eco-friendly advanced materials, thereby driving the establishment
of a sustainable technological ecosystem in the semiconductor, sensor, and energy sectors.
In addition, we seek to enhance self-reliance in core materials for the next-generation strategic
industries and mitigate supply chain risks, thereby securing technological leadership
capable of responding to rapidly evolving global dynamics and external regulations,
while strengthening socio-economic resilience.
