Regenerative Medical Research Institute (reMRI) for Aging-related Diseases
KEYWORDKeyword
OBJECTIVE Objective
The reMRI defines aging as both a key constraint in the design of
regenerative medicine and a biologically modifiable variable.
Moving beyond conventional regenerative approaches—such as dietary
supplementation or the transplantation of exogenous cells—the center aims to
establish the scientific foundation for next-generation regenerative
technologies that precisely control the aging microenvironment.
The ultimate goal is to develop practical therapeutic solutions for
age-related diseases that remain effective even in aged physiological conditions.
INTRODUCTION Director's Message
As nations around the world intensify their efforts to achieve healthy aging—one
of the most pressing challenges of an aging society—leading faculty at KAIST
in aging and regenerative medicine, together with top researchers across Korea,
have come together to establish the Regenerative Medical Research Institute
for Aging-related Diseases (reMRI).
The reMRI will recruit and support outstanding postdoctoral researchers to
tackle a major scientific challenge that is difficult to address through
conventional research paradigms:
the development of regenerative technologies that control the aging environment.
Through this initiative, we aim to nurture these researchers into future leaders
who will help position Korea at the forefront of global regenerative medicine
IMPACT Impact
The reMRI will adopt an independent research model
based on postdoctoral fellowships to cultivate independent researchers
and industry leaders equipped with interdisciplinary expertise spanning aging
and regenerative technologies.
By establishing an industry–academia–hospital collaborative research ecosystem,
where university-driven foundational technologies, hospital-based clinical data,
and industry market insights coexist, the reMRI aims to position itself at the forefront
of developing a global standard platform for regenerative medicine technologies
targeting aging-related conditions.
