OBJECTIVE Objective
Our research center aims to achieve a technological leap by establishing an intelligent autonomous platform
that integrates the entire lifecycle of artificial cells, from design and fabrication to validation.
Through this process, we will secure technological independence in core synthetic biology technologies
that previously relied on foreign sources, thereby establishing national biosecurity and technological sovereignty.
Furthermore, by advancing biomanufacturing technologies based on tailor-made artificial cells
produced through innovative process efficiencies, we seek to lead the future paradigm
of the bio-industry. We also aim to create tangible economic value through
the transfer of secured technologies and the vitalization of a deep-tech entrepreneurial ecosystem.
As the core driving force to sustainably lead this technological
and industrial growth, we are committed to nurturing next-generation interdisciplinary talent.
These individuals will possess the comprehensive capabilities of architects
who pioneer academic discourses, innovators who drive technology commercialization,
and global leaders who bridge international research networks.
In doing so, we will contribute to positioning Korea as a global hub for biomanufacturing innovation.

A New Era of Artificial Cell-Based Biomanufacturing,
Powered by the Integration of AI, Automation, and Genome Synthesis
Greetings,
I am Youngjae Choi, Director of the Artificial Cell-Based Biomanufacturing Innovation Research Center.
We are now living in an era of convergence, in which synthetic biology is achieving exponential
growth through its integration with AI and robotic automation technologies.
In Korea, many outstanding professors possess world-class research capabilities
in their respective fields. However, opportunities to go beyond the boundaries
of individual laboratories, pool our collective expertise,
and generate meaningful synergy remain limited.
To address this gap, I established this research center so that leading experts
in synthetic biology can come together and create innovative value that goes beyond
the mere sum of their individual contributions.
Our center possesses distinctive core technologies for the precise design and engineering of nucleic acids,
the blueprint of life, at the molecular level. Building on this foundation, we seek to become the first
in Korea to pursue a fully integrated, end-to-end vertical platform that unites AI-based precision design,
ultrafast genome synthesis, and intelligent autonomous laboratories.
Through this, we aim to challenge the ultimate frontier of synthetic biology: the creation of artificial cells.
These tailor-made artificial cells will overcome the physical and economic limitations of conventional
production methods and serve as a key engine of innovation that fundamentally transforms
the future paradigm of the biomanufacturing industry.
Above all, our vision extends beyond research achievements alone.
Today, the career paths of postdoctoral researchers are rapidly diversifying
beyond traditional academic positions to include entrepreneurship, technology diplomacy,
and policy expertise. We aspire to build a next-generation talent development model
that can understand and respond to these changes in real time.
We are committed to nurturing not only outstanding researchers,
but also multidisciplinary leaders who can design the future of the bioindustry,
connect the value of technology to the market, and serve as bridges for global collaboration.
In doing so, we will lay the foundation for the sustainable advancement of synthetic biology in Korea.

By translating artificial cell production into practical application
through a fully autonomous platform covering the entire cycle of artificial cell design,
fabrication, and validation, we will achieve an economic and technological quantum leap
in synthetic biology and biomanufacturing processes.
In addition, we will enable Korea to leap from a latecomer in synthetic biology
to a global technology leader, thereby securing national biosecurity and technological sovereignty.

Through innovation in biomanufacturing, we will help create future bioindustrial markets
